QNAP's Latest Firmware Update Causes Problems for Some Users
'QTS 5.2.2.2950 build 20241114', released on November 14, 2024, introduces new features including enhanced security features and ' QuTS hero ' support for some models.
However, some users have reported to the QNAP community that they have encountered problems after installing the update. The specific issues are as follows:
I can no longer access my QNAP system because I get the error message 'Your login credentials are incorrect or your account has been disabled'
- Important applications such as 'Malware Remover', 'QuLog Center', and 'Resource Monitor' fail to start.
- Model identification is incorrect
・External storage device is not recognized
- There is an abnormality in the log when accessing a shared folder via Samba
After rebooting the NAS, a warning message appears saying 'Unauthorized access or incomplete initialization.'
According to a user named 'Toxic,' these symptoms are particularly prevalent on older models such as the TS-x53D .
A QNAP spokesperson told foreign media The Register, 'We released QTS 5.2.2.2950 build 20241114 on November 14, 2024. However, we received feedback from some users reporting issues with device functionality after installation. In response, QNAP promptly retracted the update and conducted a comprehensive investigation. We then re-released the stable version of QTS 5.2.2.2950 build 20241114 within 24 hours.'

QNAP also stated that the affected models are 'limited to a limited number of models: HS-453DX, TBS-453DX, TS-251D, TS-253D, TS-653D, TS-453Dmini, TS-451D, and TS-451D2. Other units are not affected by the issue caused by this update.' QNAP further informed affected users that they have two options: downgrade the firmware or contact technical support for assistance.
Some users have criticized QNAP's response, saying, 'I have reported this issue to QNAP, but so far QNAP support has been silent . There is no guidance on what may happen with this update.'
