Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is developing an AI codenamed 'Operator' as an 'autonomous AI agent' that will perform multi-step tasks on behalf of users, and plans to release it as a research preview in January 2025.

OpenAI has been developing an autonomous AI agent called an 'operator,' and at an internal meeting held on November 13, 2024, a senior executive said that the company would 'release it as a research preview in January 2025.'
An autonomous AI agent called Claude from Anthropic has already been given the ability to use computers, allowing users to simply ask the agent to 'make plans to watch the sunrise' and perform tasks across multiple apps, such as searching in a browser, finding a route in a map app, or writing an event in a calendar app.
