According to Reuters, five anonymous sources said Amazon is developing smart glasses for delivery workers, codenamed 'Amelia.'

Amelia is being developed to further improve the ' last mile ,' by guiding delivery personnel to the doorstep with voice and turn-by-turn navigation using arrows. By including information such as where the entrance to the lot is, where the elevator is, and whether there are any aggressive guard dogs that might bark at the delivery personnel, it is expected to shave seconds off the delivery time.

If completed, it will be a great help to delivery workers, but they are having difficulty developing a battery that can withstand an eight-hour shift and is light enough to wear without tiring them out.

It will also take time to gather data to use for navigation, such as whether there are curbs that would get in the way when stopping a delivery vehicle, and whether the road is public or private.

In addition, some delivery workers wear glasses, so it has been pointed out that not all of them may be able to wear Amelia.

Those involved believe that it could take several years to complete, and that the project could easily be postponed or abandoned if problems arise, such as costs or issues with it not working as expected.

In response to news site PCMag, an Amazon spokesperson said, 'We are continually improving our delivery service to provide a safe and superior delivery experience for our drivers. We cannot comment on other matters.'
