Battery life test of 'Google Pixel Buds Pro 2': How long can Google's genuine noise-canceling fully wireless earphones be played continuously?
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 , released by Google on September 26, 2024, is a wireless earphone equipped with active noise canceling. When using wireless earphones, one of the concerns is battery life, so we actually checked how much the playback time of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 changes when active noise canceling is turned on and off.

According to Google's spec sheet , the Pixel Buds Pro 2 can play music for up to 12 hours using only the earphones when active noise canceling is off, and up to 8 hours using only the earphones when active noise canceling is on. If you place the earphones in the charging case and charge for 5 minutes, you can play music for up to 1.5 hours if active noise canceling is off.
First, we turned off active noise cancellation and played music continuously, checking the battery level every hour.
As of 9:15, both ears were 100%.
The right earbud consumed battery faster, and at 5:58 p.m., 8 hours and 43 minutes after I started playback, a warning sounded and the battery level dropped to below 15%.
At 7:48 p.m., 10 hours and 33 minutes after playback began, the battery level in the right ear reached 0%.
I continued playing the music from just the left ear, and at 8:34 p.m., 11 hours and 19 minutes after playback began, the battery in the left ear hit 0%.
Below is a graph summarizing the progress of the battery remaining in the left ear (blue) and right ear (red) with active noise canceling turned off. Below the graph is a table summarizing the battery remaining per hour. Although the battery consumption per hour was around 10%, which was slightly short of the nominal maximum time of 12 hours, it was successful in continuous playback for more than 10 hours.
Next, I tried playing music continuously with active noise canceling turned on.
As of 9:15, the battery was at 100% in both ears.
The battery level in the right ear fell below 15% at 4:10 p.m., 6 hours and 55 minutes after playback began.
Then, at 5:27 p.m., 8 hours and 12 minutes after playback began, the battery in the right ear hit 0%.
Finally, at 5:46 p.m., 8 hours and 31 minutes after playback began, the battery in the left earphone finally ran out.
Below is a graph summarizing the progress of the battery remaining in the left ear (blue) and right ear (red) with active noise canceling turned on, and a table summarizing the battery remaining per hour. Battery consumption per hour was about 12% to 13%, and it was found that the performance was properly as nominal.
I put the earphones in the charging case and checked how fast they would charge. I started charging at exactly 6:00 p.m.
After 5 minutes, I took the earphones out and checked the battery level, which was 15% in the left ear and 23% in the right ear. If you turn off active noise canceling, you can get about 1 to 2 hours of playback.
When I checked the battery level after 30 minutes, both earbuds were at 100%.
As a result of actual testing, we found that the battery lasted for more than 10 hours with active noise canceling off, and 8 hours with active noise canceling on. This time, we played music endlessly until the battery ran out, but in actual use, we sometimes switch active noise canceling or pause music, so we can say that the battery life is sufficient for a day's use. The warranty is one year, and you can check it here using the Google account used to purchase.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 is available for purchase from the official Google store for 36,800 yen (tax included).
