The results of comparing Intel's next-generation iGPU 'Xe2' gaming performance with AMD are released, Cyberpunk 2077 can be played at full HD and 30 fps at low image quality

Products equipped with Intel's mobile processor '

Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) ' began shipping in September 2024. The Core Ultra 200V series is equipped with an iGPU with a newly designed architecture called 'Xe2', which is said to deliver high performance in games and AI processing. Technology media Chips and Cheese has thoroughly examined the performance of this Xe2 and published the results.

Below are the results of running the 3D rendering benchmark '3DMark Solar Bay' on the 'Core Ultra 7 258V' with Xe2, the 'Core Ultra 7 155H' with Xe, AMD's 'Ryzen AI 9 HX 370', AMD's 'Ryzen 7 7840HS', and Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon X Elite'. The Core Ultra 7 258V's score was 13,151 points, which is higher than the previous generation Core Ultra 7 155H, but is significantly lower than the score of the 'Ryzen AI 9 HX 370'.

Here's a graph showing the frame rate (fps) per second when running 3DMark Solar Bay.

The average FPS when running the open world RPG 'Cyberpunk 2077' at full HD and low image quality settings on battery power is as follows. The Core Ultra 7 258V has significantly improved FPS from the previous generation model, and can now be rendered at 39.34 FPS.

Below is a graph showing the power consumption of the entire system while playing Cyberpunk 2077. Red is Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, blue is Core Ultra 7 258V, and light blue is Core Ultra 7 155H. Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has the highest power consumption, followed by Core Ultra 7 258V. Also, Core Ultra 7 155H has a large fluctuation in power consumption, while Core Ultra 7 258V is relatively stable.

If we divide the power consumption into 'CPU power consumption', 'GPU power consumption', and 'total processor power consumption', it looks like this. The Core Ultra 7 258V has a higher GPU power consumption than the Core Ultra 7 155H.

Below is a graph summarizing the bandwidth of access to the DRAM when playing Cyberpunk 2077. The Core Ultra 7 258V has a large cache capacity, so it can perform well while keeping communication with the DRAM low. On the other hand, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has high drawing performance but also has a lot of communication with the DRAM. According to Chips and Cheese, access to the DRAM increases power consumption.

Chips and Cheese concludes that 'the Core Ultra 7 258V iGPU is a sign of Intel's determination to catch up with AMD' and 'The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370's iGPU has higher processing performance than the Core Ultra 7 258V's, but it consumes more power. AMD needs to increase its cache, just like Intel.'
