'Online broadcasts and internal services have been taken down, and even internet and telephone connections are unavailable. It is likely that the hackers behind the attack have wiped everything from the servers, including backups, so it will take a considerable amount of time to restore them,' Russian state news agency Gazeta.ru reported.
Additionally, foreign media outlet Reuters reported that they received a 503 error when accessing VGTRK's live stream.
'VGTRK's digital infrastructure is facing an unprecedented cyberattack and experts are investigating where the traces left by those who organized this attack are leading,' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Meanwhile, an anonymous Ukrainian government source pointed out that October 7, 2024, is President Putin's birthday, and said, 'Ukrainian hackers launched a large-scale attack on VGTRK to celebrate President Putin's birthday.' In addition, the hacker group 'sudo rm -RF,' which carried out a cyber attack on the Russian video sharing service Rutube in 2022, claimed responsibility for this incident.
