Users are flooded with complaints that the PS5 UI update displays 'ads' that cannot be hidden

A bug occurred in the PlayStation 5 (PS5) system software update (

24.06-10.00.00 ) where a completely different game title would be displayed when you hovered the cursor over a game title on the home screen. Users complained that 'incomprehensible advertisements began to appear,' but PlayStation Support later explained that it was a 'technical error.'

Below is an example of a display that was deemed to be an 'advertisement.' When the cursor was placed on 'Horizon Zero Dawn,' a completely different game title, 'LEGO Horizon Adventures,' was displayed at the bottom, and the background image was also that of LEGO Horizon Adventures. Normally, details of the game the cursor was placed on would be displayed, but a completely different game was displayed, making it very difficult to tell which game you are about to play.

The game displayed was not always the same, and sometimes other games were displayed, or even 'game news' distributed by Sony. Sometimes it was related to the game you hovered over, and sometimes it was unrelated.

Other titles include 'Warhammer 40000: Space Marine 2', 'FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE', 'STAR WARS Battlefront II', 'ELDEN RING', and many more. A user reported that 'ads appear in the background of every game on the home screen and there is no way to remove them lol.'

Regarding this matter, PlayStation's official support account X (@AskPlayStation) reported that 'the technical error in the official news feature on PS5 has been resolved. There are no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5,' and explained that the 'advertisement' in question was simply an error.
