Tekken producer reveals he dreamed of featuring KFC's Colonel Sanders in the game, but was officially turned down

Katsuhiro Harada , producer of the popular fighting game Tekken series, has long said he wanted to feature Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, in the series. However, he reported to TheGamer that his dream did not come true.

Axel Bosso of TheGamer interviewed Harada and Tekken game designer Michael Murray, who explained why collaborations like this are difficult, even though Tekken has previously featured playable characters from other games and TV shows, such as Negan from The Walking Dead, Noctis from FINAL FANTASY XV, and Gouki from Street Fighter.

During the interview, Harada said, 'I've always wanted to have Colonel Sanders from KFC fight,' and 'So I went to the KFC headquarters in Japan and asked if I could use Colonel Sanders in Tekken,' revealing that he had personally approached KFC.

However, the idea of having Colonel Sanders appear in Tekken was apparently rejected by KFC headquarters because it 'made a bad impression on them.' Therefore, TheGamer reports that we can't expect Colonel Sanders to appear in Tekken 8 , the latest installment in the Tekken series.

'Harada went to KFC and tried to hire Colonel Sanders, and KFC wasn't too keen on the idea,' Murray said. 'But then Colonel Sanders appeared in another game. Maybe he was fighting someone who was a problem for KFC. It just goes to show how difficult these kinds of arguments are.'

'This is not something we can achieve on our own,' said Harada, explaining that Colonel Sanders could not be implemented in the game without the cooperation of KFC.

In addition, Kentucky Fried Chicken has released a dating simulation game in which you can fall in love with Colonel Sanders, and is somewhat tolerant of how he is handled.

In the United States, there have been many requests to implement the fast food chain 'Waffle House,' which is famous for its brawls between customers and store staff, as a stage in Tekken, but seeing that the collaboration with KFC did not come to fruition, it seems that it would be difficult to implement Waffle House as a stage in the game.

In response to a request to include Waffle House, Harada wrote, 'Why do these fights between store staff and customers happen so often? I've never seen so many plates and chairs flying, especially in Japan. I don't think it's simply because it's open 24 hours a day and there are a lot of drunk people. What kind of culture is it? There are some things that you can't grasp just by having made over 70 business trips to the United States. I need to study American society more...'
