According to Warner Bros., adding subtitles to movies, TV shows, and other streaming content has traditionally been a time-consuming process, so Warner Bros. partnered with Google to develop 'Caption AI,' which automatically generates subtitles for content.

Caption AI is built on Google's generative AI product development platform ' Vertex AI ' and can automatically convert video content into text. Warner Bros. claims that Caption AI can reduce the costs associated with subtitle generation by up to 50% and reduce subtitle generation time by up to 80% compared to manual subtitling.

'Working with Google Cloud to leverage Vertex AI in our subtitling workflow has not only made our subtitling process more efficient and faster, but it has also significantly reduced costs,' said Avi Saxena, CTO, Direct-to-Consumer, Warner Bros.

On the other hand, generative AI has a problem called 'hallucination,' which causes it to output false information as if it were true. To address this problem, Warner Bros. will also have human oversight for quality assurance when using Caption AI. At the same time, Warner Bros. is continually improving and training its workflow with Caption AI to reduce errors and provide consistently accurate captions.

'AI has the potential to transform processes across the media and entertainment industry and unlock new business possibilities,' said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

According to Warner Bros., the subtitles generated using Caption AI will initially be applied to content on Warner Bros.' streaming service, Max , that doesn't already have subtitles.
