The new models are the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max . The main changes from the previous models are as follows:
◆ 'iPhone 16' and 'iPhone 16 Plus'
・Camera control button
- Support for spatial photos and videos
・A18 chip
・Apple Intelligence support
◆ 'iPhone 16 Pro' and 'iPhone 16 Pro Max'
・Camera control button
・Spatial photography support
A18 Pro chip
・Apple Intelligence support
- 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays
- 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera
- 12MP 5x telephoto
- 4K video recording at up to 120fps
Particularly new is the camera control button.
The camera control buttons feature haptic feedback powered by the Taptic Engine, which recreates the sensation of a half-press, allowing you to press the button to launch the camera or swipe your finger along the edge of the button to zoom in and out.
The Verge, a tech publication that actually tried it, reported, 'The button itself is super sensitive, so a light press lets you swipe to zoom, while a light double press brings up swipe-able controls like lens selection, exposure, and the new photography styles available on the Pro model. It took me a moment to figure out how hard to press, but it wasn't difficult.'
The Photograph Style has been revamped from the previous version, and when you tap the icon in the upper right corner of the app, a touchpad-like interface will appear. By dragging the square icon at the bottom, you can adjust the color temperature and hue settings, and it is also possible to change the style after taking a photo.
The new 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera is said to be impressive for macro shots, with technology media Tom's Guide stating, 'When I saw the close-up photo of the flower, I was amazed at the detail.'
Regarding 4K 120fps slow-motion video, Tom's Guide said, 'I saw a video of a guy riding a bike, and he was able to record his jacket flapping in the wind in slow motion.' On the audio side, new features have been added, such as making videos sound as if they were recorded in a studio, and putting vocals front and center with environmental noise in the background.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are slightly larger than their predecessors, with the display size being larger due to the bezels being removed. The Verge points out that 'it doesn't feel that big when you hold it in your hand without a case, but it was hard to judge the size right away.'
Overall, Tom's Guide wrote, 'Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max look like solid upgrades, but the iPhone 16 Pro might be the better value because it gets the same 5x telephoto zoom as the larger Pro Max in a smaller design and has a plenty-sized screen.'
