alphaXiv is a platform where researchers can openly discuss unpeer-reviewed papers published on arXiv.

'arXiv' is the world's largest

preprint (pre-peer reviewed) server in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, statistics, etc., and since there is no peer review, researchers can quickly ask the world about their research results. ' alphaXiv ' is a platform where experts can openly discuss papers published on such arXiv.

In May 2023, Rehaan Ahmad and Raj Palleti, then master's students in computer science at Stanford University, wondered, 'What if there was an online discussion platform where students and researchers could discuss pre-peer-reviewed papers?'

The two decided to put their idea into practice and developed a platform called 'alphaXiv' based on arXiv, the world's largest preprint server. At the time of writing, researchers and students from major universities such as Stanford University, University of California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Harvard University, and Yale University are also using alphaXiv.

Using alphaXiv is very easy. If you find a paper that interests you on arXiv, you can open the alphaXiv page of the paper by simply changing the 'www.arxiv.org' part in the URL of the paper to 'www.alphaxiv.org'. For example, let's say you are interested in the following paper, ' TaskGen: A Task-Based, Memory-Infused Agentic Framework using StrictJSON '.

The URL of the original paper is '

https://www.arxiv.org/abs/2407.15734v1 ', so open ' https://www.alphaxiv.org/abs/2407.15734v1 ' with 'www.arxiv.org' changed to 'www.alphaxiv.org'. Then, I was able to access the alphaXiv page of the paper as shown below. The original paper is displayed on the left side of the screen, and the comments added to the paper are displayed on the right side.

Click on a highlighted part in the paper to see the corresponding comment. If you want to see the replies to a comment, just click 'Responses' at the bottom of the comment. In alphaXiv, authors of papers sometimes reply to comments themselves. In this paper, one of the authors responded to a question raised in a comment.

You can also search for papers on the official alphaXiv website. When you access

the top page , the following screen will be displayed.

Enter the word you want to search for in the input field in the center and click the search button on the right.

This will display a list of highly relevant papers.

You can also search for papers that are being actively discussed on alphaXiv. Click on 'Trending' from the top page.

The papers were displayed in order of the most active discussion.

Click 'COMMENTS' at the top to see a list of new comments.

By clicking 'TALK TO AUTHORS,' you can pick out only papers whose authors respond to your comments.

alphaXiv.org also offers a Chrome extension that lets you see whether the arXiv paper you're reading has comments on alphaXiv. To install the Chrome extension, open the following page in Chrome:

If you access the paper on arXiv in this state, the number of comments on alphaXiv will be displayed on the right. You can click the link to go directly to alphaXiv.
