Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who handles highly reliable leaks related to Apple, reported that the iPhone 17 Air is planned as a model that will be positioned between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro in the iPhone 17 to be released in 2025. The report said that Apple is planning the iPhone 17 Air. Gurman wrote about the iPhone 17 Air, 'It's perfect for those who want something more stylish than the standard iPhone, but don't need the performance, size, and camera of the Pro model,' and 'If the Air model is released, it will be a bigger hit than the mini and Plus in recent years.'

It is reported that the 2024 'iPhone 16' will have Apple Intelligence as its biggest selling point, and the 2025 'iPhone 17' will have a new ultra-thin mid-range model 'iPhone Air' and a revamped lineup - GIGAZINE

The iPhone 15 series, released in 2023, will have four models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the same is expected for the iPhone 16 series in 2024. However, it has been reported that the Plus model will be replaced by the Air model in the iPhone 17 series in 2025. The biggest attraction of the iPhone 17 Air is said to be its ultra-thin design, and 9to5Mac has predicted how thin it will be based on existing Apple products.

The iPhone 15 series, which will be released in 2023, will finally be equipped with a USB-C port. It is certain that the iPhone 17 Air will also have a USB-C port, so 9to5Mac points out that 'considering that the device cannot be thinner than a USB-C port, it should be easy to imagine how thin the iPhone 17 Air will be.' The iPhone 15 is 7.8mm thin, and the iPhone 15 Pro is 8.25mm thin.

9to5Mac also speculates that the iPhone 17 Air may emulate Apple's latest ultra-thin device, the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro, which Apple will release in May 2024, is touted as the 'thinnest Apple product ever,' measuring just 5.1mm (13-inch model).

The iPad Pro is 5.1mm thin, which is almost as thin as the connector part of the charging cable.

Some also believe that if the iPhone 17 series eliminates the charging and syncing port, it may be possible to create an iPhone that is thinner than the iPad Pro.

9to5Mac noted that while it's unclear how thin the iPhone 17 Air will be, if it's less than 6mm thick it would be a big step forward in terms of thinness and 'should be an attractive new model.'
