Waymo is a subsidiary of Alphabet, the same company as Google, and is developing self-driving technology. According to Waymo co-CEO Tekedra N. Mawakana, the number of paid rides of Waymo's robot taxis exceeded 100,000 per week in August 2024.
In May 2024, Waymo announced that it was seeing 50,000 rides per week, a doubling of usage in the past three months.

Waymo launched its robotaxi business in Phoenix, Arizona in 2020 and has since expanded to San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.
Although Waymo's vehicles are self-driving, they have been involved in traffic accidents, which has sparked strong opposition from some quarters.
However, 94% of traffic accidents involve human error, and 36,000 people die in traffic accidents in the United States each year, so Waymo says it is making roads safer and reducing accidents through autonomous driving.
