Tencent-backed game 'Black Myth: Wukong' becomes the second most popular game in Steam history within hours of its release
Game studio Game Science released the action RPG 'Black Myth: Wukong' based on 'Journey to the West' on August 20, 2024. At the time of writing, less than 24 hours after its release, the game has jumped to second place in Steam's 'Most Played Games'.

'Black Myth: Goku' is a game developed and provided by 'Game Science', a game studio established by former employees of Tencent, and as the name suggests, it is an action RPG based on the Chinese novel 'Journey to the West'. It is a single-player game, and the interface and subtitles are already in Japanese at the time of writing. The regular version is priced at 7,590 yen including tax.
SteamDB , which collects Steam data, shows that 'Black Myth: Goku' has been played by approximately 2.2 million people in the past 24 hours. Although it is a popular game in China, it has also been highly acclaimed in the United States, with IGN rating it 'one of the best games I've ever played' and giving it an 8 out of 10, GamesRadar+ rating it 'incredibly frustrating at times, but overall a solid RPG,' giving it a 4 out of 5, and GameSpot rating it 'unique boss battles that are frenetic and dance-like,' giving it an 8 out of 10.
