AMD acquires ZT Systems, a major server manufacturer for large data centers, for over 710 billion yen
AMD, a major semiconductor manufacturer, has announced that it has agreed to acquire ZT Systems, the industry's largest server manufacturer for AI and general-purpose computing, for $4.9 billion (approximately 717 billion yen). AMD plans to sell its manufacturing division after the acquisition.

ZT Systems is a server manufacturer headquartered in Secaucus, New Jersey, that has been designing and deploying data center AI computing and storage infrastructure for global cloud companies for over 15 years. AMD has evaluated ZT Systems as one of the leading providers of AI training and inference infrastructure, with its 'capabilities to design, integrate, manufacture and deploy.'
AMD said in a statement that the acquisition will be completed in a cash and stock transaction. ZT Systems will join the AMD Data Solutions Business Group, with CEO Frank Zhang taking on the mandate of leading the manufacturing business and President Doug Huang taking on the mandate of leading the design and customer-facing teams.
'The acquisition of ZT Systems is an important next step in AMD's long-term AI strategy to rapidly deploy leading training and inference solutions at scale to our cloud and enterprise customers,' said AMD CEO Lisa Su.
The company plans to sell its manufacturing business and is seeking a strategic partner.
'All AMD really wants is 1,000 design engineers,' news site Axios quoted Stacy Rasgon of Bernstein Research as saying.
