Microsoft discontinues full-screen notification recommending Windows 11 upgrade after receiving feedback from users

Microsoft is

trying its best to get Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. However, it has been revealed that the method of promoting Windows 11 with full-screen notifications, which has been in place since April 2024, has been discontinued due to 'feedback' from users.

What Microsoft was doing was displaying a full-screen notification to Windows 10 users urging them to upgrade to Windows 11. Reddit user Woopinah9 has reported what the notification looked like :

According to the news site Windows Latest, Microsoft had planned to roll out the upgrade call to a wider range of users from April 2024, but canceled the plan due to 'feedback from users.'

This upgrade call will be distributed via monthly security updates, and if the plan had been rolled out as scheduled, the notification would have been displayed to devices running Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Pro Workstation, devices that are in a cloud domain or are joined to a domain, and devices that are not managed by the IT department using tools.

Perhaps because the definition of 'managed' and 'unmanaged' was unclear, Microsoft explained, 'A managed device is one that is managed using Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, Windows Autopatch, Windows Update for Business, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), or other third-party management tools. All other devices are considered unmanaged.'

Please note that the rollout has only been paused for the full-screen notification; Windows 10 Home users who meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11 will continue to see pop-ups encouraging them to upgrade to Windows 11.
