Full game software sales also totaled 53.6 million units, down about 5% year-on-year. According to Sony, first-party software sales increased due in part to the impact of exchange rates. The Games & Network Services segment is the segment with the highest sales, and there is no doubt that it is a major business for Sony.

In the Imaging & Sensing Solutions segment, sales for the first quarter of 2024 increased 21% year-on-year to 353.5 billion yen due to increased sales of mobile image sensors and the effect of exchange rates. Operating profit also increased 188% year-on-year to 36.6 billion yen.

Sony commented, 'The smartphone product market during this quarter continued to show a gradual but steady recovery globally from the previous quarter. In addition, the trend toward polarization of price ranges in the product market, particularly in China, continues. This has also influenced the expansion of the high-end smartphone market, and we are seeing further progress in the increase in the size of the sensors we ship.'
