I tried playing 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' on Nintendo Switch, which allows you to enjoy two stories of Shin Megami Tensei

'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' is the latest installment in the Shin Megami Tensei series, where you can play both the story 'Goddess of Genesis' told in 'Shin Megami Tensei V', released for Nintendo Switch in November 2021, and the newly added story of revenge 'Goddess of Revenge'. I played ' Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance ', which features a total of 270 demons, and jumped into the dark world of the Shin Megami Tensei series.

There are three difficulty levels in 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance', but whichever one you choose will not affect the story. The difficulty level can be changed at any time from the menu during gameplay, but the most difficult 'Hard' is a special difficulty level that can only be selected at the beginning of the game. This time, select the intermediate 'Normal' level.

Suddenly, a poem from the Manyoshu begins to play: '

When I look at the eternal ephemerality of life, there are many days when I think about the world without paying much attention to it .'

Next, figures that appear to be characters are shown here and there among a crowd of students walking through Shinagawa Station.

The scene suddenly changes, and the player is placed on a path to the future, where they must decide the shape of the world they will walk through.

And I was forced to choose between taking the hand of the girl who has a 'soul that is not allowed to exist' or not. In 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance', there are many scenes like this where you are forced to make two choices during the game, and the ending of the story changes depending on the player's choice.

If you don't take her hand, the 'Goddess of Creation' story will start, and if you take her hand, the 'Goddess of Revenge' story will start. After you choose whether to take her hand or not, you will be asked to confirm whether you want to play the 'Goddess of Creation' or 'Goddess of Revenge' story, so you can rest assured. This time, I chose the newly added 'Goddess of Revenge'.

The scene changes again, and we start with the player operating a tablet during class, where they are asked to enter their first and last name.

You will need to enter a name of your own choosing, but most of the characters in the game have surnames in kanji and given names in katakana, so naming your character in the same way will likely make you feel more immersed in the game.

Next, since it is recommended that children walk home in groups, they will have to find friends to walk home with.

In addition, since the tutorial screen is displayed appropriately as shown below, even those who play this type of game for the first time can understand what to do in one shot, and it was a careful design that can be recommended to beginners of games.

The protagonist talks to many students in the classroom but has trouble finding anyone who will walk home with him.

In the end, I decided to go home alone. It was a tough start.

However, on the way home from school, someone calls out to me.

While walking home from school with a group of friends, they encounter a strange incident at Shinagawa Station on their way to school.

A mysterious girl also appears. Her silhouette looks familiar.

While talking to people around him, he hears testimonies of people who saw a black shadow at the scene of the accident and that the shadow was chased by Atsuta Yuzuru, a bespectacled high school boy who was walking home with the protagonist.

While chasing Yuzuru, the protagonist is hit by a sudden vibration in a tunnel.

After a meaningful narration, 'The gods who lost their wisdom became devils and ate the fruit of knowledge, which combined with their souls, and humans became humans who were closer to god. Don't forget that the devil is targeting you,' the title logo was displayed.

When the protagonist comes to his senses, he finds himself surrounded by a desert.

Suddenly you'll be attacked by a demon.

However, a light shines down on them and a mysterious man offers a helping hand.

When she takes the man's hand, her body begins to glow and she transforms.

He was transformed into Nahovino, the form of an old god.

And then the first battle begins. Battles in 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' are command-selection type, and auto-battle is also supported. A distinctive feature of battles in 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' is a system called Press Turn. The actions of enemies and allies are managed by the Press Turn icon (the icon marked 1) in the upper right corner of the screen, and one Press Turn icon is consumed each time an action is taken.

Players use skills to attack enemies, but skills have attributes, and if you can attack with an attribute that is weak to the enemy, the Press Turn icon will increase by 1. In other words, by attacking a weak point, you can extend your turn and advance the battle to your advantage. On the other hand, if your attack misses or is nullified, you will consume more Press Turn icons than usual, and the enemy's turn will come sooner, so be careful.

The icons below the enemy's name indicate their weaknesses and resistances to certain elements. An exclamation mark indicates a weak element, and a demon is weak to electrical attacks.

When you win your first battle, you level up.

As you level up, your stats will naturally increase, but you can also earn additional points that you can freely allocate to other stats. This means you can allocate the main character's stats to suit your preferred play style.

The protagonist finds himself lost in the demon world. The demon world was once called Tokyo, but over time it seems to have turned into a demon world overrun by demons.

As you progress through the story, you'll be encouraged to make demon companions to help you survive the dangerous demon world.

To make a demon ally, select 'TALK' on the battle screen.

Then the devil starts giving you all sorts of unreasonable demands.

If you clear the challenge, you'll get a demon ally.

Up to four characters can fight together in a battle, and you can change them at any time from the party menu. You can also change members during battle by selecting 'Change.'

The battles in 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' are so hard that if you only use normal attacks that don't consume MP, you will be defeated in an instant. When you get a game over, you restart from the save point, but since 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' does not have an autosave function, I have often forgotten to save and my last hour of play wasted... I recommend saving frequently.

In addition, you can transform your demon companions into more powerful demons through demon fusion. Even in normal mode, the enemies are quite strong, and fighting the demons roaming the area can easily result in a game over, so it is essential to use systems such as demon fusion to strengthen yourself and your demon companions.

I also recommend using the auto battle feature to level up. However, I have experienced several times where my demons' MP and HP have become zero due to overuse of the auto battle feature, resulting in a game over. So it's important to keep a close eye on your party's HP.

You can also adjust the speed of skill effects to make battles go more smoothly from the options. By adjusting these settings, you can make the tedious leveling process much less stressful.

The protagonist becomes embroiled in a conflict between angels and demons, involving the people of the present world as well, but you'll have to play the game to find out how the story unfolds.

In addition, 'Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance' is sold at Amazon.co.jp for 7445 yen including tax.
