It has been revealed that Google has been listing unrelated restaurant information in search results as contact information for its UK headquarters

Zoe Wood, a correspondent for The Guardian, has reported that for several years, the phone number and address of her restaurant had been listed incorrectly as the way to contact Google's UK headquarters.

According to Wood, when searching for 'Google UK headquarters contact information' on Google from around 2020, the phone number and address of his restaurant were displayed. At first, he only received occasional calls from people who thought he was Google's UK headquarters and were trying to contact him, but four years after it was made public, he said he was receiving more than 300 calls, messages and letters a week. In addition, more than 130 voice messages have been left on the restaurant's phone.

'I need to answer every call because it could be a customer who has business at the restaurant, but this situation is making me anxious and making keeping the restaurant running a nightmare,' Wood said.

'I want people to find my restaurant on Google, but I've been subjected to unnecessary harassment for years because of this listing error,' Wood said. 'Google has advised me to use the feedback buttons below the search results when I contacted them, but no matter how many times I tried, the situation has not improved.'

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Wood contacted Google again, and the search results were corrected. Google told Wood, 'We have analyzed the issue and taken action in accordance with our search policies. As a result, your restaurant's phone number will no longer appear for this search query.'

Although the mistake was corrected through Google's response, Wood criticized the company, saying, 'Google sent me a message saying, 'Thank you for your cooperation,' but I feel they could have at least apologized for the inconvenience.'
