Trump, who attended the world's largest Bitcoin conference, Bitcoin 2024, said, 'For too long, our government has violated a fundamental rule that every Bitcoiner knows: Bitcoin should not be sold.' He then stated his opinion, 'I have a plan to make America the virtual currency capital of America and the world's Bitcoin superpower.'

With the 2024 presidential election looming, Trump targeted his rival, Kamala Harris, saying, 'The Biden-Harris administration's crackdown on cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin is wrong and very bad for our country. If they win this election, you will be gone. They will be vicious and ruthless,' he said in a rallying call to a crowd of Bitcoin supporters.

As a specific measure, Trump said he would 'fire Gary Gensler, the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, who was appointed by Biden, on day one.' Chairman Gensler is known for actively promoting the regulation of virtual currencies. In response to this statement, CNBC pointed out, 'The president does not have the authority to fire appointed commissioners. Even if President Trump appoints a new SEC chairman, Gensler will likely remain an independent commissioner.'

As of 2019, Trump was skeptical of virtual currencies, stating that 'their value is very unstable, and unregulated virtual currencies could facilitate drug trafficking and other illegal activities,' but five years later, his

views seem to have changed. CNBC points out that hundreds of millions of yen in donations from virtual currency lobbying groups to the Republican Party are also related to this.

On the other hand, Harris seems to be trying to deepen her understanding of cryptocurrencies behind closed doors, as reported by the Financial Times that 'Harris' team has begun to contact people close to cryptocurrency companies and set up meetings,' and businessman Mark Cuban said that 'Harris's team has asked her about cryptocurrencies.' According to the Financial Times, unlike Biden, who wanted to regulate cryptocurrencies, Harris is trying to reach out to the cryptocurrency industry because she wants to 'change the perception that the Democratic Party is anti-business.' For this reason, Harris is considered by some cryptocurrency advocates to be 'more understandable than Biden.'

Bitcoin 2024 organizers also said they had negotiated with Harris but she ultimately declined to attend, although two Democratic lawmakers from Harris' party were in attendance.

One of them, Congressman Wiley Nickel, said, 'All presidential candidates need to understand that there will continue to be voters who support digital assets and innovation. I want to keep this issue a bipartisan issue and I don't want Donald Trump to politicize it.' He continued, 'I expect to hear from Vice President Harris on this in the near future. We need to continue to embrace this issue across party lines.'
