On July 18, 2024, video streaming service Netflix announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2024 (April to June). During the earnings call, Netflix President and Director Gregory K. Peters was reported to have said, 'We've released over 100 games to date. We've seen what works and what doesn't. We're going to improve our programs to make progress on the more than 80 games we have in development.'

According to Peters, the new titles Netflix is developing are 'interactive storytelling games' based on popular works such as 'Emily in Paris' and ' Selling Sunset '. These games based on Netflix original works will be called 'Netflix Stories' and will be provided through a dedicated hub on the Netflix app.

Gaming media Polygon noted, 'The news that Netflix will be adding new games to its existing library is exciting, but a game based on Perfect Match, for example, might not be the most fun. However, in addition to its original games, Netflix also offers several great third-party games , including The Case of the Golden Idol , Crispy Street , and Spiritfarer .'

Netflix started its gaming business in November 2021 and has acquired game studios such as Night School, Boss Fight, Next Games, and Spry Fox. At the time of writing, Netflix has game studios in two locations in the United States: Southern California and Helsinki.

Netflix has been focusing on game development in recent years, and has hired Alan Tuscan, who served as executive vice president of game development at Epic Games and has been involved in the development of the company's popular titles such as 'Fortnite,' 'LEGO Fortnite,' 'Rocket League,' and 'Fall Guys,' to head the games division.
