Elon Musk announces relocation of X headquarters

Elon Musk has announced that he will be relocating the headquarters of X (formerly Twitter) and SpaceX from California to Texas. Musk cited the passage of a new LGBTQ bill in California as the reason for the move.

On July 15, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill ' AB 1955 '. AB 1955 aims to support LGBTQ children and includes a provision that 'prohibits educational institution personnel from disclosing a child's gender identity to others without the child's consent when they become aware of it.'

AB 1955, enacted in California, also prohibits 'educational officials from disclosing a child's gender identity to parents without the child's consent.' In response to a post that mentioned this point, Musk said, 'Many families and businesses will leave California because of this law. No one should be able to allow the state to take away their children,' claiming that AB 1955 strips parents of their rights.

He added, 'This is the final blow. California has many laws in addition to this one that attack families and businesses. For this reason, SpaceX will be moving its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase in Texas,' announcing the relocation of SpaceX's headquarters.

Musk continued, 'I explained to Governor Newsom a year ago that this type of law would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,' revealing that he has long been dissatisfied with the state of California and Governor Newsom's policies.

Then, 18 minutes after announcing SpaceX's relocation, he posted, 'X's headquarters will also be moving to Austin,' indicating his intention to move both X and SpaceX's headquarters to Texas.

Musk also said he was tired of having to avoid groups of violent drug addicts when entering or leaving a building.

Musk continued to criticize California's existing laws, including AB 1955, and Governor Newsom's stance, alleging that the Governor has signed a bill that 'risks destroying parental rights and causing lasting damage to children.'
