The transfer of data between different services was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Data Transfer Project (DTP), an open source initiative that includes Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and X (formerly Twitter).

This time, Google Photos and iCloud Photos are transferring data using DTP's tools. According to Data Transfer Initiative (DTI), which developed DTP, DTI has supported data migration between different online services for many years, but they felt that simply providing a tool to download data was not enough, so they adjusted the tool to transfer data without compromising its integrity. DTI said that the tool used this time is 'the best-in-class product for direct transfer.'
