Steam, a PC game sales platform, has released 'Data on Controller Usage on Steam,' which reveals that the average controller usage rate among PC gamers has tripled compared to 2018.

In many cases, PC games require the use of a mouse and keyboard, but in recent years, there has been an increase in home console titles being released for PC as well, and the number of games that support controllers is on the rise.
According to Steam, the average daily controller usage rate increased from 5% in 2018 to a maximum of 15% by 2024. In other words, the average controller usage rate has tripled in just six years.
In addition, about 42% of controller sessions used 'Steam Input,' which allows you to customize controller input on the Steam side, 59% of sessions were Xbox controllers, 26% were PlayStation controllers, and 10% were Steam Decks.
IT news site Tom's Hardware commented, 'This is not surprising, given that XInput has been the standard for a long time. Support for newer titles, especially PlayStation controllers, has improved significantly, but the button layout for most games assumes that you'll be using an Xbox controller when using a controller.'
Steam has also announced an update to its 'Big Picture' mode optimized for controller operation, a reimagined controller configurator, standard support for gyro controllers, and improved support for PlayStation controllers including the DualSense Edge and Xbox controllers.
