Dolphin, which was released in 2003 as a game emulator for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii, has announced that it will release its first major update in eight years since 'Dolphin 5.0' was released on June 24, 2016. With this update, Dolphin boasts that it has 'succeeded in eliminating the fundamental inaccuracies that have plagued it for over a decade, and has advanced into a new era of accuracy and performance.'

The features of Dolphin 5.0, released in June 2016, are summarized in the following article.

The latest version of the GameCube & Wii emulator 'Dolphin 5.0' has been released after three years - GIGAZINE

Dolphin 5.0 was released 8 years ago, but that doesn't mean that Dolphin hasn't been updated at all during that time. Dolphin has been continuously updated, with new features implemented, bug fixes, and stability improvements. Also, due to the continuous updates, the number of titles that cannot be played properly on Dolphin can be counted on one hand.

Although there have been no major version releases since Dolphin 5.0, development has been very active during that time. In fact, the total number of commits since Dolphin 5.0 is about 22,000, which accounts for more than half of the commits made during Dolphin's entire development period. Even though upgrades are delivered frequently, users expect major version releases.

Therefore, Dolphin announced that it will adopt a new release cycle based on the highly successful beta build, releasing a new version every few months and reporting the change log and development progress. The latest version of Dolphin to be released with the new release cycle is ' Dolphin 2407 '. Regarding the reason for the major change in version number from the previous '5.0' to '2407', Dolphin explained, 'The new release cycle is fundamentally different from the previous release method, so although the new Dolphin version number will increase with each release, we have decided to adopt a number that is significantly different from the previous release number.'

In the new version number, the first two digits represent the 'release year' and the next two digits represent the 'release month.' The latest version will be released in July 2024, so the version number '2407' has been assigned.

With the release of Dolphin 2407, the Dolphin logo was also upgraded to a new one. The top is the new Dolphin logo, and the bottom is the old Dolphin logo.

The new Dolphin logo was designed by May Imilae, the designer of the old logo and author of the official Dolphin blog. He said about the old and new logos, 'The Dolphin logo was released in 2013 and was designed when we moved to the new version. Dolphin has committed to doing things right, even if it means throwing away its buggy past and removing a ton of working code. So Mario's silly peace sign is gone, and instead we decided to create a sharp, edgy, serious, trendy logo that symbolizes its future as a full-fledged emulator. And now we can say that Dolphin is a mature emulator. It's stable, confident, and comfortable. So we wanted to make the logo design more timeless, more fun, more colorful, more gentle, and thicker.'

As MayImilae said of the new logo, 'it's more colorful,' the new logo has been designed with multiple variations in mind and will appear in a variety of styles and colors.
