The talks between Apple and Meta came at a time when Apple was starting to hold talks with OpenAI and Google about entering into AI partnerships.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Apple ended its partnership with Meta because it felt that Meta's privacy practices were not strict enough. Apple has been critical of Meta (formerly Facebook)'s privacy practices for years , but integrating Llama into the iPhone would be a major departure from that approach.

In addition, some believe that the partnership with Meta did not go through because Apple considers OpenAI's ChatGPT to be a better chatbot than Meta's Llama.
