The Times reports that a British man is preparing to sue Apple, claiming that Apple's failure to explain its message deletion system led to his divorce.

Messages, a standard communication app on Apple devices such as iPhones and Macs, allows you to receive the same text and images on all devices logged in with the same account. For example, in the example below, the same conversation record is displayed in Messages on an iPhone 8 (left) and a MacBook (right).
Operate messages on iPhone 8 to delete conversation records.
On the iPhone 8, conversation records have disappeared.
However, in the MacBook's Messages app, conversation records remain intact.
According to reports, the man had been communicating with prostitutes through iPhone messages, and had been carefully deleting the conversation records to prevent others from eavesdropping. However, the conversation records remained on the family's iMac, and his wife saw the conversation records with the prostitutes that were left on the iMac, leading to a divorce. The man paid his wife a huge amount of money, 5 million pounds (about 1 billion yen), in alimony.
The man claims that Apple did not adequately explain to users that even if they deleted their Messages conversation records on their iPhone, the records would remain on synced devices. 'Apple has not clearly explained to users what happens to deleted conversation records,' said Simon Walton of the Rosenblatt law firm, which was hired by the man.
In addition, if you enable message syncing from the iCloud settings on each device, 'deleted conversation history' will also be synced, preventing tragedies like this one.
The information that 'deletions will also be synced if you enable iCloud sync' is also stated at the bottom of the following support page.
