'Barnacle' is a device that can be attached to a car's windshield to crack down on illegal parking

Illegal parking, such as parking a car on private property without permission, can result in measures such as tire locking and towing. Barnacle Parking, an American company, has developed a device that adheres to the windshield of a car to block the driver's view and prevent the illegally parked driver from escaping.

The device, named 'Barnacle,' is a plastic device that attaches to the windshield of illegally parked cars, and sticks to the windshield with a force of 1,000 pounds (about 450 kg). This strong adhesive force makes it impossible for the car owner to release the Barnacle and escape.

In addition, while typical methods such as using wheel clamps to lock car tires take several minutes, Barnacle installation can be completed in just under a minute.

'With traditional tire locks, you could end up waiting all day for someone to unlock your car,' says Barnacle inventor Colin Heffron. 'And with tire locks, you could end up damaging expensive wheels or other parts.'

The Barnacle can be automatically released by car owners simply scanning a QR code and paying a fine, after which drivers must return the deactivated Barnacle to a designated collection point.

Additionally, if the owner of the car tries to forcibly remove the Barnacle or drive away with it still attached, the Barnacle's built-in GPS and motion sensors will detect this and automatically sound an alarm and send a notification to the Barnacle owner.

According to overseas media CBS, the New York Police Department is conducting a pilot program to introduce Barnacle to crack down on illegally parked trucks and cars. It has also been introduced in other police departments and universities in the United States. Kevin Doherty, CEO of Barnacle Parking, said, 'Currently, about 40,000 Barnacles are deployed in the United States.'

However, some users have expressed dissatisfaction, with some even trying to access the Internet by removing the SIM card built into the Barnacle. In response, Barnacle Parking has upgraded the design of the device, adding a function to adjust the suction power based on the surrounding temperature and a tamper-proof replaceable battery.
