Regarding announcement from Gainax Co., Ltd. | Color Co., Ltd.
Gainax is an animation production company founded in 1984. It was originally founded by a group of university students from the Osaka area who came together to create the opening video for the Japanese Science Fiction Convention, commonly known as 'DAICON 3,' held in Osaka in 1981. At that time, Hideaki Anno, the director of 'Evangelion,' and others were involved in the actual production.

He is also widely known for producing 'Neon Genesis Evangelion', which aired from 1995 to 1996. Director Anno founded the animation production company 'Khara' in 2006 and left Gainax in 2007.
After that, Gainax's business situation started to deteriorate around 2012. As a shareholder, Anno made proposals for improving the business, but his proposals were not accepted.
In 2018, the shares were transferred to 'an individual with no knowledge of video production.' In 2019, the individual was arrested on suspicion of quasi-forcible indecency against a minor and sentenced to two years and six months in prison.

Furthermore, prior to this incident, Khara Inc. held all rights to the 'Evangelion' series, including 'Neon Genesis Evangelion,' and has protested the use of the name 'Eva' in reporting on the incident.

Gainax revamped its management team in February 2020, appointing Yasuhiro Kamimura of Groundworks Inc., who was in charge of copyright management of the 'Evangelion' series, as president in an attempt to restructure operations. However, in May 2024, a debt collection company filed a lawsuit for debt restructuring, and the company was forced to cease operations and file for bankruptcy.
The 'Gainax' name and brand have already been transferred to Khara Inc. and are currently being managed by it.
In addition, it has been announced that the company is not related to the former 'Fukushima Gainax', namely 'Gaina Co., Ltd. (Studio Gaina)' and 'Fukushima Gaina', as well as other corporations such as 'Gainax International', 'GAINAX Kyoto', 'Yonago Gainax', 'Gainax Niigata Co., Ltd.' and 'GAINAX WEST'. It has also been stated that the use of the 'Gainax' trademark without permission from Color may be an unauthorized use.
