Apple designer suggests iPad's Apple logo may be changed to landscape orientation in future, here's why

One of the features of Apple products is the apple-shaped logo on the back, but the company's designers have suggested that the orientation of this logo may change from portrait to landscape on the iPad. The reason for considering changing the orientation of the Apple logo on the iPad is said to be due to changes in how users use the iPad.

French media outlet Numerama has published an interview article in which three senior Apple employees talk about the new iPad Pro, which was just released in May 2024. In the interview, Molly Anderson, a product designer at Apple, mentions the rear logo of the iPad.

On existing iPads, the logo on the back is positioned so that it looks correct when the device is held vertically. However, in recent years, more and more iPads are being used with keyboards, including the original Magic Keyboard.

Apple is aware that the iPad is increasingly being used in landscape mode, and in the newly released M4-equipped iPad Pro and iPad Air, the front camera has been moved to the long bezel to make it easier to use when held landscape.

Regarding the Apple logo being tilted when the iPad is held horizontally, Anderson said, 'I think that could change in the future,' suggesting that the orientation of the logo could be changed in the future. He added, 'It's something we're considering. The iPad has been a vertical product for a long time, but it's increasingly being used horizontally.'

The comments made during this interview are quite vague, but 9to5Mac points out that Apple employees usually don't say anything they can't talk about in an interview. Anderson's reference to the iPad's Apple logo may be a sign that Apple is seriously considering changing the orientation of the Apple logo on the back of the iPad, which is becoming more and more like a Mac.

Starting with iPadOS 14.5, Apple has updated its software so that the Apple logo is displayed correctly on the startup screen even when the iPad is turned on while held landscape mode.
