Netflix removes offline download feature from Windows app

Netflix, a video streaming service, offers a download function so that users can watch content even when their device is offline. However, it has been revealed that the download function has been removed from

the Windows version of the Netflix app .

Artem Russakovskii of Android Police , a website that handles Android-related information, reported that the download function for offline viewing was removed after he updated the Windows Netflix app. He said that he used the download function when watching Netflix on an airplane, and pointed out that it was a 'terrible change.'

Along with the post, Russakovskii shared a screenshot of a Netflix notification that read, 'Update includes access to live events, compatibility with ad-supported plans, and more! Please note that while downloads will no longer be supported, you can still watch TV shows and movies offline on supported mobile devices.'

Regarding this, some on the overseas message board

Hacker News have pointed out that 'They've realized that it's easier to bypass DRM on Windows' and 'pirated copies are another way to provide a good viewing experience,' but there are also opinions that there are few users of the Netflix Windows app in the first place, saying, 'No one seems to be discussing how few people use the Netflix Windows app. Windows has basically zero market share for tablets compared to iOS and Android. You could think of the Surface Pro as a kind of tablet, but users use it like a traditional PC. The Microsoft Store is not that popular on Windows in the first place. I'm not that surprised that Netflix isn't prioritizing support for features on the platform.'

In addition, when I actually opened the Windows version of the Netflix app downloaded from the Microsoft Store, I thought I would be notified that the download function would be removed, but instead an advertisement screen for the download function was displayed.

Downloadable content will be displayed as 'Downloadable Works'.

To download content, simply click the down arrow icon underneath the content you want to download. Once the download is complete, the icon will change to a blue check mark.

To download content, click the hamburger icon in the upper left corner of the screen.

Click 'My Downloads.'

The downloaded content will then be displayed. At the time of writing, the download function was still available on the Windows version of the Netflix app for Japan.

The same goes for the Netflix mobile app; you'll see a down arrow icon next to the content you want to download; just tap on it to download the content.

You can check your downloaded content from 'My Netflix' at the bottom of the screen. When Netflix announced that the download feature would be removed from the Windows version of the Netflix app, it said, 'You can continue to watch TV shows and movies offline on supported mobile devices,' so it seems that the feature will continue to be available on mobile devices.
