'The Copilot+ PC is the fastest, most intelligent Windows PC ever built. It has a powerful NPU that delivers incredible computing power of over 40 TOPS, delivers all-day battery life, and gives you access to cutting-edge AI models that allow you to do things no other PC can do,' Microsoft said.

According to Microsoft, they have introduced a completely new system architecture to integrate the capabilities of the CPU, GPU and NPU. They also claim that by working with large language models (LLM) and small language models (SLM) running on Azure, they can achieve up to 20 times the performance of conventional AI workloads, and that their multi-threaded performance is up to 58% higher than Apple's 15-inch MacBook Air.

In addition, with power efficiency improved by up to 100 times compared to conventional models, Copilot+ PC will be able to play videos for up to 22 hours or browse the web for 15 hours on a single charge. Microsoft lists three requirements for Copilot+ PC: ' Microsoft-certified SoC with 40 TOPS or more NPU ', ' 16GB or more DDR5 memory ', and ' 256GB or more SSD '.

In addition to the AI assistant Copilot, the Windows AI functions enabled by Copilot+ PC include 'Recollection,' which allows you to intuitively search for snapshots and emails on your PC with simple operations, 'Live CoCreator,' which allows you to generate images, 'Live Captions,' which transcribes and displays real-time subtitles on videos, and 'Creative Filters,' which allow you to easily edit photos on the spot.

Other applications that will benefit from Copilot+ PC's AI capabilities include Adobe's Photoshop and Lightroom, video editing software DaVinci Resolve Studio, and the background removal feature in video editing software CapCut, Microsoft said.

Copilot+ PCs come with

the Microsoft Pluton security processor enabled by default, meaning they're 'shipped secure right out of the box.'

The Copilot+ PC lineup includes the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. In addition, on June 18, 2024, Acer's Swift 14 AI 2.5K touchscreen, ASUS' Vivobook S 15, Dell's XPS 13, Inspiron 14 Plus, Inspiron 14, Latitude 7455, and Latitude 5455, HP's OmniBook X AI and EliteBook Ultra G1q AI, Lenovo's Yoga Slim 7x, ThinkPad T14s Gen6, and Yoga Slim 7x, and Samsung's Galaxy Book4 Edge will all be released as Copilot+ PCs.

The Copilot+ PCs announced by Microsoft this time are all models equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite or Snapdragon X Plus, which use the Arm architecture, but Microsoft said, 'Models equipped with chips using Intel or AMD's x86 architecture CPUs will also be released at a later date.' In addition, Microsoft has suggested that in the future, it may offer Copilot+ PCs for gamers and creators in combination with graphics cards such as NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon.
