The iPhone 15 Pro Max , released in September 2023, is said to be capable of watching video for up to 29 hours, but according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo , the iPhone 16 Pro Max, expected to be announced in 2024, will be equipped with an even larger battery.

The battery expected to be installed in the iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to be the same size as the one installed in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the increased energy density while keeping the size the same means that the battery temperature during operation is more likely to be higher than in conventional products. Kuo said, 'To solve the heat issue, the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery may be encased in a stainless steel battery case for the first time.'

Previous iPhone batteries were made of aluminum, but the stainless steel battery case is expected to address heat issues and provide better protection for the battery and iPhone system. In addition, the battery case is easy to remove, and is said to comply with the European Council's 2023 regulation that

requires manufacturers to make batteries removable in all consumer electronics products, including smartphones .

Additionally, in November 2023, images were released claiming to be of a battery for the iPhone 16 Pro, showing a J-shaped battery similar to that of the iPhone 15 series, but encased in a matte metal case.

According to Kuo, the stainless steel battery case will only be introduced on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and if this implementation goes well, it is possible that stainless steel battery cases will be adopted for all iPhone series released in 2025.
