According to technology media AppleInsider, Apple will revamp Siri and update it in iOS 18, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2024.

The update will add AI-powered summarization and transcription features, which are said to bring significant efficiency improvements to users of Apple's popular Notes, Voice Memos, and other apps.

Apple is currently testing the feature and plans to support it in macOS 15 and iPadOS 18.

The image under development is as shown below, and it appears that the text transcribed by AI will be displayed large in the center of the voice memo.

Details about this feature are expected to be announced at Apple's keynote address, WWDC24, to be held in June 2024.

According to the New York Times, Apple executives Craig Federighi and John Giannandrea spent several weeks testing OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT and were concerned that Siri had become obsolete. As a result, the company restructured its operations to focus on AI, making AI development its main focus going forward.

According to the people, Apple is not focusing on creating a chatbot to compete with ChatGPT, but on helping Siri better handle tasks that it already does, like setting timers and creating calendar events. These tasks would be done locally on the iPhone, which would make them more private than rival AI services.
