'Bluesky' is a social networking site that originally started as an internal Twitter project. Bluesky PBLLC (now Bluesky PBC) was founded as an independent company that was not a subsidiary of Twitter, but when it became independent, an agreement was made between Twitter and 'select one director,' and Dorsey participated as a director.

When we spoke directly to Why, a technical advisor on the Bluesky development team, he said that Dorsey sympathizes with Bluesky's 'philosophy of decentralization,' and that just because he is a director, he does not give instructions or anything. He is not involved in the development of Bluesky or the AT Protocol.

I asked the people at Bluesky everything I want to know right now, including 'Bluesky's ambitions,' 'Bluesky's monetization plan,' 'Bluesky's official server specifications,' 'Will the API ever become unusable?' and 'The relationship between Jack Dorsey and Bluesky' - GIGAZINE

On May 4, 2024, when asked by X, 'Are you still a director of Bluesky?', Dorsey replied, 'No.'

Dorsey did not comment further, but Bluesky's official account posted a statement acknowledging Dorsey's departure.

Bluesky thanked Dorsey for his help in fundraising and launching the company, and said it was seeking new board members.

We sincerely thank Jack for his help in funding and initiating the bluesky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open source social network running on atproto, the decentralized protocol we have built.

With Jack's departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!
