Amazon Q, an AI chat service announced in November 2023, is touted as a 'new type of generative AI' that can be customized to suit a company's business environment and connected to external apps such as Amazon S3, Dropbox, Confluence, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, and Salesforce. Amazon Q organizes data and learns based on information from connected apps. Then, by asking Amazon Q in chat format, Amazon Q will carry out the given task.

According to Amazon, Amazon Q not only generates highly accurate code, but also has multi-step planning and inference capabilities to test, debug, and generate, transform, and implement new code that meets developer requirements. It also learns from corporate data and workflows, allowing employees to ask questions about the company's business, coding, personnel information, and logistics.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed that Amazon Q has been adopted by companies such as Brightcove, British Telecom, Datadog, GitLab, GoDaddy, National Australia Bank, NCS, Netsmart, Slalom, Smartsheet, Sun Life, Tata Consultancy Services, Toyota, and Wiz.

Since its announcement on November 29, 2023, Amazon Q has been available in preview for a long time, but was finally made generally available on April 30, 2024. Prior to its general availability, Amazon Q has added several new features.

Amazon Q Developer, which provides coding assistance, app testing, security scanning, and troubleshooting, now allows you to list AWS resources on Amazon Q to check computing power, and also supports the invocation of AI agents that automatically perform tasks such as software updates and code documentation. Amazon said about these features, 'Developers spend only 30% of their time coding, and the rest is spent performing tedious and repetitive tasks. By introducing the new features of Amazon Q, we hope to reduce the time developers spend on non-coding and allow them to spend more time creating unique experiences for end users while also enabling them to deploy faster.'

In addition, a preview feature of 'Amazon Q Apps' has been added, which aims to make it easy for employees with no coding experience to build generative AI-based apps. With Amazon Q Apps, you simply describe the required app information in natural language and AI will quickly generate an app that performs the desired task. As a result, it is possible to streamline and automate everyday work easily and efficiently.

The Amazon Q service costs $20 (approx. 3,150 yen) per month for Amazon Q Business and $25 (approx. 3,940 yen) per month for Amazon Q Developer.
