The roots of the Morgan Library building date back to a 13th century chapel, and after repeated demolition, reconstruction and renovation, it became the headquarters of the UK's Public Record Office in the 19th century. The building at the time of writing was designed by 19th century architect James Pennetson , and was further expanded in the late 19th century. In 2001, King's College London purchased the building and renovated it for use as a university library. The Morgan Library is known as a very beautiful university library, with a dodecagonal reading room, a chapel, and a clock tower.
