Traditionally, Chrome's Safe Browsing feature updates the list of sites known to harbor malware, unwanted software, and phishing scams every 30 to 60 minutes and alerts users to the list. I was there. However, because the malicious site existed for less than 10 minutes, it could be attacked before the list stored on the device was updated.

Therefore, Google introduced a real-time URL protection feature. The real-time URL protection feature allows you to view lists managed on the server side in real time. According to Google, the introduction of the real-time URL protection feature will block approximately 25% more phishing attempts than before.

On the other hand, real-time URL protection features tend to have more latency than traditional protection features because they require sending requests to the server. Therefore, before running the real-time check, Google uses a 'global cache', which is the list of safe URLs that Chrome retrieves in the background, and a 'local cache', which is the list saved from the Safe Browsing checks that have been performed so far. By checking, it seems that unnecessary delays are avoided.

The real-time URL protection feature has been implemented for PC and iOS users since March 14, 2024, and Google says, ``This feature will also be rolled out to Android in the second half of March 2024.''

Additionally, Google has announced that it will make the real-time URL protection feature the default standard protection feature. As a result, users can take advantage of real-time URL protection without changing settings, but Google says that by enabling Enhanced Protection, Google uses advanced machine learning models and additional information to 'It can help protect you from potentially dangerous sites, even if they aren't.'

To enable the enhanced protection feature, open Chrome, click the menu button in the top right corner, and then click 'Settings'.

Click 'Security' under 'Privacy and Security'.

Check 'Enhanced protection' under 'Safe Browsing' to complete the setting.

Google also announced that it has updated its

Password Checkup feature for iOS users, which helps identify passwords with security issues. Previously, it issued a warning for leaked passwords, but now it also flags weak or reused passwords.
