Speaking at

Tech, Media & Telecom 2024, an AI conference held by Morgan Stanley, Allison revealed that Meta is designing and developing a video recommendation engine for all platforms.

Based on its technology roadmap until 2026, Meta is first switching its recommendation system to use GPU to improve overall performance.

With the recent increase in attention to LLM, ``We saw the potential of a recommendation engine that could be used across the entire product,'' and so they built a new model architecture by 2023. The new AI model is compatible with both short and long videos, and when tested on Reel, it seems that the video viewing time was increased by 8% to 10%.

Allison said this result proves that the system is learning much more efficiently than previous generations of recommendation systems.

According to Allison, the technology roadmap has entered Phase 3, where AI models are being built that will power not just Reels, but the entire video ecosystem. If done well, the recommendations will not only be more appealing and relevant, but also more responsive.
