A prize of approximately 750,000 yen is being offered for the phantom course of 'F-ZERO' distributed on Super Nintendo's Satella View

The satellite data broadcasting service ``

Satella View '' for Super Nintendo, which was provided only in Japan from 1995 to 2000, can distribute audio and data using satellite broadcasting, similar to the current download distribution on the Internet. Many original games and additional data were distributed. However, now that the service has ended, there are many things that can no longer be played. A bounty of 5,000 dollars (about 750,000 yen) is being put on ``BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2'' that was distributed on this Satella View, and volunteers are trying to reproduce it.

'F-ZERO' is a racing game released for the Super Famicom in 1990. The sequel to 'F-ZERO' is said to be 'F-ZERO There are titles such as 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX' and 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2' distributed on Satella View.

'Sound Link Game' is a game unique to Satella View in which the game is played in conjunction with the radio broadcast on Satella View. For example, when a radio voice says, ``The race will start in 5 minutes,'' the race will actually begin in-game along with the voice. Sound Link games are linked to radio broadcasts, so you can play for just one hour at a set time each week, and the game data is stored in a special memory pack, and the data can only be activated during broadcast times.

'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX' is a game based on the original 'F-ZERO' and was distributed as a sound link game. And this 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX2' is a title that only picks up new courses from 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX'. In other words, none of the courses that can be played in 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2' were included in the original F-ZERO.

However, this 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX2' is a sound link game, so it can only be played during broadcast time. Since the service provision of Satella View ended in 2000, it is completely impossible to play at the time of article creation.

Since Satella View was a service developed only in Japan, overseas F-ZERO fans did not have the opportunity to play 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2'. Therefore, a bounty of $5,000 was placed on the course data of this 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX2'. After that, although some data was discovered from a memory pack that was sold second-hand, all of the courses distributed with 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2' have not been discovered at the time of article creation.

However, in 2018, a valuable play movie of 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX2' was released on YouTube by Mr. kukun kun . According to the movie's description, ``It was digitized from a videotape recorded while playing the Sound Link game at the time.''

Therefore, instead of extracting the course from the data, an attempt was made to reproduce the course using a tool called `` Graphite '' developed by YouTuber FlibidyDibidy based on the movie uploaded by kukun kun. Graphite is a tool that ``analyzes the recording of ``Super Mario Bros.'' played on an actual Famicom device using machine learning and reproduces it on an emulator.''

Using this Graphite, an attempt was made to read the behavior from kukun kun's movie into the emulator and reproduce the course of 'BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX 2' from there.

The course data reproduced in this way is said to be ``more than 99.9% accurate with respect to the original,'' and at the time of article creation, it is being distributed as a patch that can be applied to F-ZERO's ROM file. However, since the reproduced course patch is not original data, it is unclear whether it will be eligible for bounties.
