Apple's AR headset ' Vision Pro ', which is set to be released on February 2, 2024 and is suddenly attracting attention, cannot use popular apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, and Instagram, and the ones that can be used are in compatibility mode. According to MacStories, a news site specializing in Apple products, apps for iPhone and iPad are compatible as Vision Pro apps and can be used by default. In other words, in principle, iPhone and iPad apps are available on Vision Pro's OS, visionOS, so unless the app developer actively opts out, general apps from the App Store will be available as soon as Vision Pro is released. This means it should be usable.

Apps for iPhone and iPad are also available in the App Store for Apple Vision Pro by default - GIGAZINE

This time, MacStories used the App Store API to investigate whether developers of popular App Store apps are opting out of distribution on visionOS. The results showed that out of 46 popular apps, only about one-third can be used in compatibility mode, and none of them are available as native apps.

Since this result is from before Vision Pro was released, MacStories says, ``Opted-out apps may become available in the future.''

For example, Apple demonstrated Disney+ for members of the press, but they said they were opted out of the App Store. This does not mean that Disney is holding off on releasing the app on Vision Pro, but it means that it is likely that they plan to address it in a future update.

On the other hand, there are some services for which it is almost certain that apps for Vision Pro will not be released. Specifically, Netflix and YouTube have announced that they will not be releasing an app for Vision Pro, and sources have reported that Spotify has no plans to release an app for visionOS.

Even without app support, Vision Pro users can still enjoy YouTube and Netflix content from their browser, but image quality and immersion may be limited.

Regarding the survey results, MacStories said, ``I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that you can do a lot of things with built-in native apps provided by Apple and apps that run in compatibility mode. However, other famous apps... , some work in compatibility mode, but very few work natively apart from those officially announced by Apple, which is a bit of a bummer since the Vision Pro is a new platform and initially Considering that there are likely to be few users, it is understandable that many companies are taking a wait-and-see approach.'
