A Pint Of Bear is a stallion born on March 25, 2018. His sire is Kodi Bear , who won four races including the Celebration Mile (GII), and is a descendant of Danehill , who was a very successful stallion in the 1990s and 2000s. His dam is an undefeated horse called Heart of An Angel, and his dam's sire is Dark Angel , who was entered as a stud with four wins, including a 2-year-old G1 and Middle Park S. If you trace your ancestry, you will find the names of stallions that were used in Japan, such as Wajib and Try My Best .
A Pint Of Bear, who debuted in October 2020, has been steadily racking up wins, with his first win in the second race, his second win in the fourth race, and third win in the ninth race.
However, on August 21, 2021, he collided with another horse during a 5-furlong (approximately 1,000m) turf race held at York Racecourse and suffered a serious injury that tore the tendon in his hind leg. Veterinarians at the racecourse told Paul Dixon, the father of trainer Scott Dixon and one of the horse's co-owners, that A Pint Of Bear had a 'poor prognosis', meaning it would be unlikely that he would recover, and that he should be euthanized. He said it was appropriate to do so.
When asked about his preferred method of euthanasia, Mr. Dixon saw the power in A Pint Of Bear's eyes and decided to save him somehow. Veterinarians said they found the torn tendon and tried to patch it back together.
Mr. Dixon's wish came true, and the tendons in A Pint Of Bear's hind legs were somehow reattached, resulting in several months of physical and mental rehabilitation.
Initially, Mr. Dixon apparently planned to retire A Pint Of Bear, which saved his life, but now that his injury has healed, A Pint Of Bear has started running around the farm, and the animal was regularly scanned for injuries. The decision to return was made after receiving the doctor's approval, saying, ``I have never seen a case of such recovery, and if you wish, you can return to training.''
In May 2023, 636 days (approximately 1 year and 9 months) after his injury, A Pint Of Bear made his comeback in a 5-furlong turf race held at Cirks Racecourse in England, finishing 11th out of 11 horses. .
After that, he finished second in a field of 11 horses in the race in October 2023, which was his fourth race back, and finally achieved his fourth win in the race in January 2024, which was his 12th race back in the race. The odds of A Pint Of Bear in this race are '16/1 (16x)'. There were other horses that were 50/1 (50x), so although he was not the least popular, he was not a horse that was expected to win.
Mr Dixon said: ``We are fortunate to own many good racehorses and have bought some of the top British and American races in the past, but none have made us happier than A Pint Of Bear's recent win. 'There is no such thing. I plan to live with him forever,' he says, expressing his joy.
