The brand reliability rankings were published in Consumer Reports, a monthly magazine published by the non-profit organization Consumers Union. Consuper Reports has collected data on more than 330,000 vehicle issues from its members over the past 12 months, and uses all this information to assess the reliability of the brand's leading models. American car brands struggled, with an average score of 39 points. However, individual models such as Ford's Edge and Maverick, Buick's Encore GX, Cadillac's XT5, Chevrolet's Equinox, GMC's Terrain, Lincoln's Corsair, and Tesla's Model 3 received high scores.
Jake Fischer, senior director of automotive testing at Cousumer Reports, said that although sedans have fallen out of favor with consumers, they remain reliable as a class, with an average score of 57. Other class scores were 50 for SUVs, 45 for minivans, and 41 for pickup trucks.
Additionally, when comparing three vehicle types (hybrid, EV, and PHEV) to conventional fossil fuel vehicles, hybrids were well received with 26% fewer problems, while EVs had 79% more problems and PHEVs had 146% more problems. While Toyota's RAV4 Prime and Kia's Sportage Hybrid earned high scores, Audi's Q5 and Chrysler's Pacifica Hybrid had low scores compared to other PHEVs, with the Pacifica Hybrid in particular receiving the lowest score among those surveyed.
