LendingTree analyzed insurance quote data from November 14, 2022 to November 14, 2023, and found that Tesla cars had an accident rate of 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers, out of the 30 top brands surveyed. It was 1st place. The only cars other than Tesla with an accident rate of more than 20 per 1,000 people were Dodge Ram with 22.76 and Subaru with 20.9.
Tesla cars have a high overall problem incidence rate of 31.13 per 1,000 drivers, including not only traffic accidents but also speeding, drunk driving, and other enforcement records, second only to Dodge Ram (32.9 cases), which ranks first. It was 2nd place.
Below is a ranking of the top 10 with the worst problem occurrence rate. Dodge Ram took first place, followed by Tesla in second place, Subaru in third place, followed by Volkswagen and Mazda.
LendingTree analyzes that the reason American drivers often have problems with cars from these manufacturers may be due to the acceleration performance of the cars. For example, Dodge Ram's Ram 1500 pickup truck has attracted attention for accelerating from a standstill to 60 mph (approximately 96 km/h) in 7.4 seconds, and is in the top 10 in the 2023 EV fastest ranking compiled by Kelley Blue Book. Four of the car models are occupied by Tesla cars.
On the other hand, LendingTree says it is unclear why Tesla cars are at the top in traffic accidents, but the car news site The Drive, which picked up the results of this survey, said, ``Tesla's autopilot function, especially the autosteering function, It may be the cause.'
In fact, a two-year study of Tesla by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that there were 322 autopilot-related crashes caused by head-on collisions or inadvertent system disengagement. It is said that this has been ascertained. Due to these issues, approximately 2 million vehicles, nearly all of Tesla's vehicles manufactured in the United States, were subject to recalls.

LendingTree's research also found that Ford Motor Co.'s Mercury drivers had the highest problem rate with 15.82 incidents per 1,000 people, and BMW drivers had the highest drunk driving rate of 3.13 incidents per 1,000 people. It is by far the best, with 1.72 cases, almost twice as many as the second-placed Dodge Ram.
