According to research by Dr. Junaid Ali , 53% of the 280 software engineers surveyed answered that they suspected fraud in the workplace.
In this case, 'fraud' refers to a wide range of things, from violations of professional standards to violations of legal obligations, including negligence, bribery, fraud, environmental damage, and discrimination, as well as intentional concealment of such misconduct.
Of the 116 people who reported fraud, 75% said they had experienced some form of retaliation.
Combining this result with the fact that the total number of software engineers in the UK is estimated to be 466,000, this means that approximately 145,000 people may have experienced some form of retaliation for reporting fraud. Dr. Ali points out that it is thought that there is. The number of 145,000 people exceeds the total number of regular British Army, Navy, and Air Force soldiers combined.
By the way, when we asked people who felt they suspected fraud but did not report it, 59% said they were afraid of retaliation from management, and 44% said they were afraid of co-workers. I'm afraid of retaliation.'' Other responses included ``It doesn't concern me'' (25%), ``Fear of social rejection'' (25%), ``I don't care/I want it to continue'' (19%), and ``Policies and procedures for reporting.''
