A new model of ``PlayStation 5'' (hereinafter referred to as the new PS5), which is more than 30% smaller and has an internal SSD of 1TB, was released on Friday, November 10, 2023. I was able to borrow a sample of the new PS5 from SIE, so I checked out its appearance and how to attach the separately sold vertical stand.

The new PS5 package looks like this.

Pull out the new PS5 from the box.
I took out all the contents of the package. From the top left: the new PS5, DualSense, horizontal feet, HDMI cable, USB-C cable, quick start guide, and safety guide.
◆2: Installation procedure for horizontal feet
Before checking the appearance, first attach the horizontal feet to the new PS5 according to the instructions.
This is what the horizontal foot looks like.
Attach two horizontal feet to the bottom surface when placed horizontally. No tools are required to install it, just push it into the hole deep in the black groove by hand.
Now it can be placed horizontally in a stable state.
◆3: Check the appearance
The front of the new PS5 has a power button and two USB-C ports. It also includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.
The USB-C ports are SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps on the left and Hi-Speed USB on the right.
The back has one HDMI port, one wired LAN port, and two SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps USB-A ports.
There are no buttons on the side.
There was a ventilation hole on the opposite side.
The PlayStation logo is written on the top.
The white panel is divided into two by a black line, and the panel with the PlayStation logo has a smooth texture, while the panel without the logo has a smooth texture.
The bottom looks like this. The panel is divided into two like the top, the left panel is smooth and the right panel is smooth to the touch.
Also, there is a mark '△○×□' on the right edge.
The dimensions of the new PS5 excluding the largest protrusion are 358 mm wide x 96 mm high x 216 mm deep, and the actual weight was 3.2 kg.
◆4: I tried removing the panel
The new PS5 panel can be easily removed by simply pulling it up by hand.
When I removed the disk drive cover, the disk drive was revealed.
The disk drive can be removed by inserting your finger into the red frame and pulling it upwards.
I was able to remove it with fairly light force.

The back of the cover has a rough texture in some places, and when I looked at it close up, it was studded with extremely small '○×△□' like peripheral devices such as DualSense .
Removing the cover on the left side of the disk drive revealed the SSD slot and fan.
'○×△□' is also engraved on the screw that secures the SSD slot cover.
I also tried removing the cover on the other side.
A fan is installed at the top.
There is a cover on the bottom that allows access to the inside.
At the bottom of the cover was written 'Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.'.
◆5: Installation procedure for vertical stand (sold separately)
The previous PS5 came with a stand that could be placed both vertically and horizontally, but the new PS5 only comes with feet for horizontally, and if you want to place it vertically, there is

The steps to attach a vertical stand to the new PS5 are as follows. First, prepare the new PS5, a vertical stand, and screws.
Remove the cap attached to the bottom surface of the new PS5 when it is placed vertically.
Attach the removed cap to the hole marked '△○' on the vertical stand.
Finally, use the screws to secure the vertical stand to the bottom of the new PS5 to complete the installation.
