EU warns to ``comply with related laws'' as X (Twitter)'s disinformation rate is too high

X received a warning from the EU because it had the highest rate of posting false information among large-scale social networking sites. The EU has implemented

the Digital Services Act (DSA) to protect online safety (PDF file) from August 2023, and is calling on X to comply with this law.

A report that recorded posts deemed illegal across the EU showed that X was the platform with the highest rate of misinformation and disinformation, followed by Facebook.

X withdrew from the EU code of conduct on disinformation in May, before the DSA came into force. However, there is no escaping the legal obligations of the DSA, and failure to comply may result in the inability to continue providing services in the EU.

European Commission Vice-President Vera Zhurova, responsible for implementing the DSA, said Russia is spreading disinformation and urged big tech platforms to do more to counter Russian disinformation campaigns. It encouraged me to put in a lot of effort.

In response to the EU's report, X's Global Government Affairs team released a message saying, ``X is committed to complying with the DSA.''

The team disagrees with the EU's data framework and said discussions of this nature should take into account all actions taken by platforms and recognize the importance of protecting freedom of expression.

He continued, ``More than 700 community notes were posted on posts related to the Ukraine conflict,'' highlighting the success of Twitter's own countermeasures against disinformation. Community Notes has a feature that detects the same image or video and displays the same community note on different posts, and since this feature was introduced, it has already been applied to over 1,200 posts. This has been confirmed, the team said.

Google, Microsoft, TikTok and others have signed the EU-developed code of conduct and are preparing to operate within the scope of the DSA.
