CD-ROM ISO image file filled with valuable data about Air Force soldiers during World War II is now available
Mara Truslow Story is creating an unofficial database that compiles a huge amount of information about soldiers who belonged to the 44th Bomb Wing of the United States Air Force during World War II. And while registering that data, Mara is asking for help by publishing the ISO image file on X (formerly Twitter) because she can't access it because she doesn't have an old PC environment.
✨The update you've been waiting for!✨

Here's a link to the ISO file: https://t.co/Us2YQxcbsH
If you have questions about the data or structure of the database, I'm here and ready to answer questions.
Mara's grandfather belonged to the 44th Bomb Wing of the United States Air Force during World War II and was involved in 42 missions. Mara's grandfather passed away around 2003, but he never talked about his time in the U.S. Air Force during his lifetime.
This database is how I first found my own grandfather Wally's missions - in 2018 - 20 yrs after he died & took his war to the grave. This data - his missions - were the only portal I had into his story. Like millions of others, NARA file burned in the '73 fire. pic.twitter.com/Vuy9VkLH6u

So, Mara started collecting data about the 44th Bomb Wing around 2018 to learn about her grandfather's work. The data was obtained by automatically extracting 1 million pieces of data from enlistment records registered with the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), and also includes data collected independently by Mara. thing. In particular, in the 29-month battle records collected by historians in the past, all casualties were recorded by hand.
Mara, who has collected and organized more than 1.5 million pieces of data, released all the compiled data as an online database in the spring of 2019.
However, not all the collected data is registered in the database. This time, Mara is calling for help with the analysis of the following CD-ROM.
The background: OG database used to live online. In 2019, I scraped 1 million data points & built a new, more modern version. I got most of the data, but not all. This year, the OG online database was taken down. Now a CD is only way to get OG data. (2/4) https://t.co/dIcvvwevNl pic.twitter.com/jl7hxorFLN

It seems that this CD-ROM contains information about about 5,000 American airmen, such as photos, ranks, careers, episodes, etc., but that data is managed with Microsoft Access . However, Mara says that because the file is old, it can only be viewed in the Windows 98 environment. Mara said she accessed the site using an old laptop that she had used when she was 16 years old to see if she could somehow salvage even just the photos, but the laptop was not working properly and she was unable to save the data. I am.
Booted up my 16-yr-old high school laptop to open a WWII database that lives on a CD, works only on Windows 98, & exists no where else. The creator is dead. Need help to save the data from technological oblivion. At stake are stories of 5k airmen who fought Hitler from sky. (1/4) pic.twitter.com/ybvw0Da1mT

'This database is very important for many people who wonder what their fathers, parents, uncles, and brothers did in the war,' Mara said.

Mara then received the advice, ``Why not create an ISO image file from the CD-ROM and publish it?'' Mara published the ISO image file of the CD-ROM in question on Google Drive.
X says, ``My grandfather must be there somewhere. He served as an aviator in the Pacific War during World War II and retired as a colonel in the Air Force. What an amazing archive! I would love to check it out. .I hope you can organize your data.''
Just awesome! My Grandfather must be in there somewhere. He served as a Navigator in the Pacific Theater during WWII and retired a Col. in the Air Force. What a great archive! I would love to dig in. I hope you're able to sort it out.

He also said, ``I'd be happy to help.My grandfather belonged to the 7th Bomber Wing. Mors ob Alto (Death descends from the sky, the message written on the Bomber Wing's unit badge)! ” comments were also received.
I would love to help with this. My Grandfather was in the 7th Bomb Group. Mors of Alto!
