On August 31, 2023, Mr. Musk announced on his X account that he was adding voice and video calling features to X. According to Mr. Mask, this calling feature will work on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, and will be available without a phone number.

When asked by a user, ``Is it encrypted?'' regarding this call feature, Musk replied, ``Although it's not the case at first, we will add a feature that allows you to dynamically turn encryption on and off.'' 'There is a slight time lag with encryption. However, for most users, encryption is not important and call quality is their priority.' It has been revealed that users will be able to switch at will.

Musk is not the first to announce that X plans to add calling functionality. In an interview with CNBC in early August 2023, X CEO Linda Yaccarino said, ``Soon, you will be able to video chat with anyone on the platform (X) without giving out your phone number.'' He revealed that he plans to add a video call function to X.

In addition, Andrea Conway, who works as a designer at X, has released a concept design for the audio/video call function that will be added to X. According to this, a call icon will be added to the upper right of X's direct message (DM), and it will be possible to make voice and video calls from here.
