On July 19th, 2023 local time, Blizzard Entertainment will be launching third-party PC games in addition to its own game client, Battle.net, to make it easier for players around the world to access and play their games. We announced that we will also distribute our own titles on the platform Steam.

Along with this, from August 10, 2023 local time, Overwatch 2, one of Blizzard Entertainment's popular titles, will also be distributed on Steam. At the time of writing, the PC version of Overwatch 2 can only be played from Battle.net.

'Our goal is to listen to our players and exceed their expectations in everything we do,' said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. Although it is a priority, we have heard from users that they want to play several original titles from Steam, including Overwatch 2, which is scheduled to be released on Steam on August 10th. We are pleased to be able to work with Valve (the developer of Steam) to achieve this.'

The Steam page for Overwatch 2 is already up and you can check it out below.

Users already playing Overwatch 2 on Battle.net will not be affected, but users who play the Steam version will also need to connect to their Battle.net account. In other words, even if you play the Steam version, a Battle.net account is required. Blizzard Entertainment explains that 'cross-platform play is possible by connecting to a Battle.net account.'

Overseas game media Polygon pointed out that `` Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard (Blizzard Entertainment's parent company) is imminent, so the manufacturer seems to have changed its strategy '' about Blizzard Entertainment's policy change.

In addition, Blizzard Entertainment says, 'We plan to share details when the time is right' for titles scheduled to be released on Steam in the future. Some older titles such as the original Diablo and Warcraft can be obtained from GOG.COM , another game sales platform.
